Our Background Screening Process

SSN Verification

Get Started with a Background Check

Social security number verification is among the most basic and effective ways to perform a background search on a new employee. Once an applicant has received and accepted a job offer, employers must ensure his/her records by conducting an SSN search. A Social Security Number trace incorporates national credit bureau and Social Security Administration information, and entails cross-verification from both sources.

Identity fraud is increasingly prevalent in the United States, and a Social Security number trace lends significant protection against identity crimes by returning the following information:

  • Year of SSN issuance
  • Names and aliases associated with a particular card number
  • A ten-year address history
  • Occurrence of invalid numbers
  • Occurrence of numbers retired due to death benefit claims
  • Occurrence of numbers used in fraudulent activities

An SSN trace verifies a new employee’s past and present address information, and identifies the names and aliases with which he/she is associated. SSN verification establishes when a Social Security Number was issued, and details the timeframe of its use.

SSN searching is as sensitive as it is commonplace and for this reason, it must be employed appropriately and consistently.  The amount of information returned from a search depends on the history of an employee, and in cases where a name and Social Security Number do not match, further verification is required.  Trusted Employees insists on properly corroborating all results, until the facts are aligned and the employee profile is complete.
